Her Duty As A Citizen

A former Chicago funnyman helps Paris Hilton strike back at ad by 'that wrinkly white-haired guy'

You thought Paris Hilton couldn't act, but in her now-famous political spoof she actually seems, uh, kind of bright -- thanks to a funny filmmaker from Chicago.

Even people who have never liked Hilton might give the hotel heiress verbal high-fives this week. It's all thanks to her starring role in the spoof of the John McCain ad calling Barack Obama ''the most famous celebrity in the world.''

The satirical McCain commercial uses clips of both Hilton and Britney Spears. That inspired FunnyorDie.com co-founder Adam McKay to pitch Hilton on the idea of spoofing McCain right back. The former ''Saturday Night Live'' head writer launched his career here at iO and Second City, and since leaving "SNL" has partnered with Will Ferrell to co-write the hit films ''The Anchorman,'' ''Talladega Nights'' and ''Stepbrothers."

"I was literally in my car and thought Paris must respond," McKay told the Los Angeles Times. "It's her duty as a citizen. Within three hours I was on the phone with her and she was into it."

Hilton appeared for free in the video, taped at a home in New York's Hamptons. The faux commercial was produced by writer Chris Henchy, who also happens to be Brooke Shields' husband.

Clad in a leopard-print swimsuit, Hilton says she's been endorsed for the presidency by "that wrinkly white-haired guy" and delivers a brief synopsis of her energy plan, soberly calling for "limited offshore drilling with strict environmental oversight while creating tax incentives to get Detroit making hybrid and electric cars.'' Then she suggests R&B singer Rihanna for a running mate.

"Our next goal," McKay said, "is a town-hall-style debate between Paris, McCain and that sea creature that washed up in Montauk."
