Paris Hilton's New Film Bombs

February 11, 2008

Paris Hilton's new movie The Hottie and the Nottie has bombed out on the big screens.

Despite three weeks of lavish events in Hollywood and television interviews to promote the romantic comedy, Friday's opening reeled in a mere $9000, according to Box Office Mojo.

In the nerd-meets-beauty comedy, the former Hilton Hotel heiress plays a sought-after babe stalked by a man who has had a crush on her since they were six years old.

However, the flop was emphasised by the success of the same day's opening of Fool's Gold, starring Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, which brought in $7.65 million .

And if there was any ambiguity, The Hottie and the Nottie averaged $81per screen, compared to $2148 ($A2396) for Fool's Gold.

But the disappointment was not through lack of trying.

Hilton promoted the film, which, at the Sundance Film Festival, Harvard University and on Late Show with David Letterman.

However, these figures do not make a new record for the bombed out movie of all time.

Jessica Simpson's latest film Blonde Ambition took in just $1,190 in December across eight Texas theatres — or $50 per screen.

The remake of the 1988 movie Working Girl was labelled by magazines as "the biggest bomb of the year" with an estimated grand total of 48 viewers.
