Could anyone in the whole of the world ever upstage Paris Hilton in a posing stand-off? Certainly not her sister Nicky, if this shot is anything to go by. There was a time when Nicky looked like a serious contender for the limelight-hogger’s crown but it now seems as if she has packed up her sash and dropped out of the running, preferring to gaze at her sister with an expression of steely resignation rather than try to out-pout and out-preen the undisputed champion of the game.

Really, Paris should write a book called ‘Posing with Paris’; it could even become
a new extreme sport. The girl truly is a caution, with her knowing, suggestive-but-unobtainable smile, her circa 1950 catwalk arm and hand pose, and pelvis jutted to a precise 45 degree angle from the pavement. The only thing that’s missing is any sense of humour or hint of irony, which would top the whole thing off nicely, like a cherry on a knickerbocker glory.

Paris’s body language now suggests that she knows she’s the main event and that anyone standing next to her is superfluous to her posing requirements. There’s no attempt to mimic affinity here via mirroring, and poor Nicky is left looking borderline anxious with her bag hanging between the two as a security barrier, and a face-checking eye-gaze that suggests she’s now taking her lead from her sis.
